Rethinking Emergency Transport

MORA is an autonomous emergency medical transporter developed as an R&D project with MOME. It addresses the time-sensitive movement of donor organs through dense urban environments. The concept is intended for international use, with a strong focus on European cities.

Its compact architecture is designed to reduce delays while protecting medical cargo. Autonomous operation removes the need for an onboard rider. Created by Sebestyén Ócsai and Gergely Sárady, MORA was shortlisted among the top 300 entries in the iF Design Student Award 2024.

The Limits of Medical Logistics

Donor organ transportation is a time-sensitive logistical task. Organs must reach their destination under controlled conditions, with reliable protection throughout the journey.

Conventional road transport depends on vehicles that are not necessarily optimised for carrying a single, compact medical shipment. In dense urban environments, vehicle dimensions and traffic conditions can influence transport efficiency. The project investigated whether a smaller, dedicated vehicle could offer an alternative for emergency medical logistics.

Compact Transport, Full Protection

The central challenge was to combine the dimensional advantages of micromobility with the requirements of medical transport. A compact vehicle still needed to accommodate a dedicated organ container, provide physical protection and support controlled storage conditions.

We explored how the vehicle architecture could integrate these functions without compromising its compact form. Vibration protection, secure container placement and redundant electronic systems were essential considerations in developing the concept.

Autonomous Medical Priority

MORA proposes a compact emergency transport vehicle with a dedicated compartment for an organ transport container. The insulated container fits into a fold-down section of the vehicle, surrounded by a carbon-fibre exoskeleton that provides structural protection.

Inside the container, a standard gel-based cushioning material protects the organ from vibrations. Redundant electronic systems are incorporated into the concept to support operational reliability. Together, these elements form a dedicated medical transport system designed around the requirements of its cargo.
